Central American Bird Roost

Just got back from a trip to San Salvador for the company. As we were approaching earth, I couldn't help wondering aloud, where is the airport? Where is the city? Neither one was in sight. We winged toward the Pacific Ocean, then curved south, east....and then, out of the window, I could see a small airstrip. Now, wait a minute...how are we going to land this Boeing 737 on a small airstrip. Aren't they supposed to land at REAL airports? It wasn't to much longer after that that the airplane lined up where I had seen the runway, and we touched down.
Wonder of wonders....two weeks later, I read in my itinerary that we were supposed to take a Boeing 757 out of the same airport. The plane finally showed up--a Delta Airlines jet--a half hour late...and we got off the ground.
Big metal birds...they land at real airports and "jungle" airports. Amazing!
